Argentina defeated Belgium 1-0 and Gonzalo Higuain got the most important goal in the 7th minute. He scored after Angel Di Maria's pass ricochetted of a Belgium player and all that the Napoli player had to do was to smash the ball into the net. Although, Belgium dominated possession they didn't make it count since no clear cut chances were created. The game was only marred by an early injury to Di Maria. He will miss the rest of the tournament due to a muscle tear in his thigh. Argentina are in the semi finals for the first since Italia 1990.
Netherlands survived a penalty shoot out scare by defeating Costa Rica 4-3 on penalties. Netherlands had chances in the game but they were denied by Costa Rica goal keeper, Keylor Navas. Wesley Sneijder was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet since his two shots cannoned of the wood work. During latter stages of extra time, Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal surprised everyone by bringing on Tim Krul for first choice keeper Jasper Cillessen. The move paid off since Krul made two saves. With the victory, the Netherlands face Argentina in the semi finals. Netherlands are in their second consecutive semi finals.
