Defending champions Spain were disgraced by The Netherlands and the main architect for the Dutch was Arjen Robben .The Spain dominated the first half in which they scored a penalty by Xabi Alonso in the 26min after Diego Costa was tripped by Ron Vlaar. Robin van Persie equalised for The Netherlands by scoring a looping header after a sweet cross from Daryl Janmaat in the 44 min.The second half totally belonged to The Netherlands who scored four goals . The goals were scored Robin van Persie , Stefan de Vrij and a Arjen Robben double.Iker Casillas and the Spanish defence looked awful in the second half and Casillas was the main culprit after he misjudged a pass which allowed Robin van Persie to score the 4th goal.
